MUSICIANSHIP CLASSES
Daily classes in sofege and music reading will be taught by experienced Kodály-trained music educators. Students will be grouped by age and ability in order to best meet their levels of musical development.
OUR INSTRUCTORS:
Gretchen Liechty Lynch teaches choral and general music in Fairfax County, VA. She holds a masters degree with Kodály emphasis from the University of Hartford and has studied pedagogy at the Kodály Instutute in Hungary. She has organized and presented inservices for music educators new to the Kodály concept of music education. She is a past director of the Fairfax Choral Society Children’s Choirs, and currently serves on the board of the Virginia Organization of Kodály Educators.
Dr. Georgia Newlin is the coordinator of music education at Bucknell University. She received her doctorate from the University of Hartford. She is past president of the eastern division of OAKE and has chaired the OAKE National Conference Choirs Committee. She has presented for a number of state Kodály organizations as well as the OAKE National Conference. She is currently the president-elect of OAKE. She serves on the Kodály certification faculty at Indiana University and James Madison University.
Kristen VanOllefen teaches general elementary music in Woodbridge, NJ. She holds a masters degree with Kodály emphasis frm Capital University and a diploma from the Kodály Institute in Hungary. She recently received a student achievement grant from the National Education Foundation for a composition project with her fifth and sixth grade students. She presents workshops on the Appalachian Dulcimer and autoharp, and has served on the Kodaly Certification faculty at Westminster Choir College and Texas Tech University.
Berta Yee has taught general elementary music for more than 15 years. She holds a masters degree with Kodály emphasis from Holy Name College and has conducted workshops for music teachers in several states and at the OAKE national conference. She has served on the staff of the Connecticut Children’s Chorus and the Children’s Choir of Maryland. She serves on the Kodály certification faculty at James Madison University.
